How I work
Motion beyond the browser
I’m not an animator. But when a design needs a little movement, I can make it.
What I made
Two short name animations for a course assignment. In the first, a ball of yarn rolls in and spins out my name in script, then a pair of knitting needles pops into the ball. In the second, the letters of my name drop in one by one and settle. These are the first two animations I’ve ever made, and they’ll only get better the more I do.
How they move
- Keyframes and easing. The yarn ball rolls across the screen and the letters drop and settle, all timed with keyframes.
- A write-on reveal. The script name draws itself in step with the rolling yarn, as if the thread is writing it.
- Layered artwork. The yarn, needles and letters are separate layers, so each can move on its own beat.
Behind the scenes
I drew every part myself and brought them into After Effects as separate SVG files, so each one could move on its own.
From the project file
- Composition Follow animation
- Source artwork 7 SVG files. Five letters, the full name and the yarn ball with needles
- Effect Paint, for the brush strokes that write the name on
- Renderer Classic 3D

Where I would use this
Small, purposeful motion. A logo that comes alive, a short social clip, or an animated detail that helps a product feel finished. For anything bigger, I know when to bring in a real animator.
